There are many places to stay in the French Alps but I think our pick to stay in Combloux turned out to be a good one. Combloux is a quite little village, its Centre Ville contains only about a half a dozen restaurants and a few boulangeries (both excellent) but you can't beat the location and the views of Mount Blanc.

We could walk out of our flat in Combloux and hike dozens of trails that have 360 degree views of everything in the French Alps. We could also jump in the car and be in so many places in under an hour, Mejeve, Chamonix, Geneva, Albertville and Les Saisies just to name a few.

Our flat in Combloux was in a newer complex that was built about five years ago. It was comfortable, modern and had underground parking (great for the skiers in the winter). The great thing about this area is that it is less expensive then Chamonix or Megeve and not as packed. We didn't get to try any of the restaurants there (we had a couple of great dinners in Chamonix and Saint Gervais) but we were regulars at Boulangerie-Aux delices de Combloux. If we come back to the French Alps in the winter for XC Skiing Combloux will definitely be a home base choice again.

Combloux is located in the French Alps Avuvergne-Rhone-Alpes region. It is located about 45 minutes for Geneva, Switzerland (and an airport that serves both Switzerland & France) and is close to many hiking trails and ski resorts.
