On paper, Solitude Nordic Center may not seem impressive, with just 20km of trails. However, the location and terrain will keep you coming back for more. Situated at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon, be prepared with chains or all-weather tires on a snowy day; otherwise, good luck. The drive up the canyon is beautiful, steep, and dotted with avalanche warning signs. Upon reaching Brighton, you're at 8,700 feet, making it one of the highest Nordic centers in North America. Despite being only 20 kilometers, most trails aren't flat, so be ready for climbs and fast descents (it can get icy in the forest shade). If you manage to ski seven to ten miles here, you'll feel the burn!
Solitude Nordic Center is located at the top Big Cottonwood Canyon in Brighton, Utah. A 45 minute drive from Salt Lake City this area has it all, world class downhill skiing (Solitude and Brighton Resorts), solid cross country skiing as well as hiking and mountain biking in the summer.
